For the first time since the inception of the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards, the actual awards will be held in Maskwacis this September. It's a big piece to reconciliation, something the Maskwacis First Nation chiefs spoke on at the announcement. I wrote Samson Cree Nation's press release and helped capture the event with the other communications members at Government House in Edmonton. Making the announcement this June was Her Honour, the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell, CM, AOE, LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta with Samson Chief Vern Saddleback and Ermineskin Chief Craig Makinaw also speaking. Another first was seeing Indigenous dancers in full regalia dancing on the lawn of Government House. For more information on the event visit these websites: www.artsawards.ca and www.battleriverarts.ca.
Capturing this event and working with the Samson Cree Nation was made possible because of my ability to network, create positive working relationships and using principles within Public Relations. I have created a solid background with the Samson Cree Nation communications team as well as chief and council and am known to write honestly, with a flair for excitement and garnering interest. Communications is also about working with others to find a common vision.
